I understand it’s homecoming week for the Bearcats as they face the Boyd Yellow Jackets. In 1993 we were on a collision course with a very solid Boyd team all season long. I’ll get more in depth on that in a later episode. Typically, you schedule a team you feel you can beat easy for your homecoming game. So hopefully the Bearcats will take care of business tonight.
Speaking of beating someone easily we played the S&S Rams this week back in 1993. The year before we had beaten them 76-6. S&S had a lead in that game 6-0 as they ran the opening kick-off back for a touchdown. There would be no lead for S&S in 1993. As a matter of fact, they didn’t even get a first down in the game. It was total domination from start to finish. Brian Chambers, our starting fullback, had his “Al Bundy moment” as he scored 4 touchdowns in the game. We took care of business 58-0 in this one.
I remember we were able to get some of the underclassmen playing time in the S&S game. That is always a long-term value to a program as you build towards the future. You never know when guys are going to go down with injuries, so you prefer back-ups with some experience. It also sets the program up to be successful the following year when you have confidence and experience.
So that brought our record up to 8-0 for the season. We had hit the only “soft spot” in our schedule so it was nice to get a blow out win or two. Next up was another District foe the Little Elm Lobos.
Go Bearcats!
