Across The Field With The Whitesboro Bearcats

Eddie Wood

The 2019 Whitesboro Bearcats are much like the 2018 version. The team is led by Sr QB, Scout Sanders (#6) who has continued to mature and does a very nice job running Coach Eddie Gill’s offense. His primary weapons are Noah Greison (#5), Trysten Gaines (#2) and RB Brooks Barker (#40), all returning starters. The offense has good to very good overall speed. The O-line is breaking in a couple of new starters and has at times showed it although overall has done a nice job and is “jelling” at the right time.

Defensively the Bearcats are a little beat up. The defense certainly relies on those same kids as the offense, mostly in the secondary while the D-line is anchored by Sr DT Riley Dixon (#9). There are a few injuries on the defensive side of the ball, mostly in the front 7, that shorten the rotation that Coach Gill likes to use. There are also a couple of new faces in that front 7 this year that are getting their first taste of varsity football. As a result, we have had some inconsistencies in the 1st half of the season. The expectation is that those guys are beginning to be more consistent which should result in better overall efforts from the defense.
